UK Beaches Make World’s Top 10

The sun’s set to shine all over the UK Bank Holiday Weekend which is perfect timing to visit two of the World’s Top Ten Beaches, according to this Guardian article.

But there’s no need to travel far.  In addition to the paradise sands in Brazil, Australia and The Cook Islands, two pristine UK beaches have been highlighted over other exotic stretches of sand.shell-bay

First up is Shell Bay in Dorset, renowned for its sweeping golden sands and fabulous views along the Isle of Purbeck.  Take the short three minute ferry ride from Sandbanks to these well kept National Trust preserved shores.

Also making the “best beach list” is Scotland’s Sinclair´s Bay beach in Caithness.  If it wasn’t for the cooling northerly winds, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the pristine white sands and turquoise blue seas for those found in the Caribbean.  What’s more, it’s all on your doorstep (almost).

As far as novelty restaurants go, this one literally takes the p*ss.  A Taiwanese restaurant chain has expanded into China, offering customers the unique opportunity to eat out of a toilet and drink out of plastic urinals in what is possibly the world’s weirdest novelty themed restaurant.

According to Youtube, “It’s supposed to shock and confuse the senses,” says Chen Minkuang, manager of a Taiwan Modern Toilet.  You don’t say!

Even if you’re a frequent flyer, take note!

This flight attendant from South West Airlines has given the safety drill a much needed makeover. Check out the video which has become something of a Youtube hit as flight attendant David Holmes makes sure he gets his point across:

“You got to help evacuate in case we need to / If you don’t want to, then we’re gonna reseat you.”

Now that’s what I call customer service!

Employee of the Month

Alex HidalgoHi, I’m Alex Hidalgo and I’m part of Hotelopia’s Product Department which involves working on our portfolio of 25,000 hotels. And since we’re based in Majorca, I won’t have to travel very far to enjoy the summer. As well as the fantastic beaches and spectacular scenery on the island, Majorca makes not just the perfect home, but the perfect holiday destination.

Formentera will also be on my list of places to visit this summer. As the lesser known of the Balearic Islands, it’s just a short ferry ride from Ibiza. The white sands and turquoise blue seas make this the closest you can get to a Caribbean break without leaving the Med. Add in the sultry sunsets from the Big Sur and eating paella overlooking the ocean at Ca’n Rafalet and that’s my summer just about wrapped up. Just make sure yours is!
