The best ski resorts in Europe

Europe is proud to have 12 out of the 15 best ski resorts in the world so if you are planning to go skiing on your next break we recommend you to take a look at this:

Austria and Switzerland have always been famous for their ski resorts. In this case Austria has 4 resorts in the list: Lech, Kitzbühel (and its famous balneary), Zell and See/Kaprun (where it is also possible to ski in summer) and Saalbach – Hinterglem. Most of them have a big offer for skiing experts. Switzerland is proud to be on the list with 3 of them: Crans Montana, one of the most elitist resorts in the country, Saas-Fe and Zermatt, considered the most beautiful ski resort in Europe.

However, other countries offer different options. France has two resorts on the list: Courchevel, the French jet set’s favourite and Meribel, with slopes for all the different levels. Spain, most known for its good weather and sunny summers also has two stations with around 90 km and modern installations. These resorts can be found in the south, Sierra Nevada, and in the North, Baqueira-Veret. Last, but not least, the small country of Andorra also has a very good and complete station, Grandvalira.

So check them soon and get your skis, gloves and goggles ready to explore the snow!

2010: The year of the volcano.

Looking back at 2010 now that it is gone for good, as a traveller that is probably how it will be remember: The year of the volcano.

Iceland, and its unpronounceable named Volcano were the headlines during more than a week, when the whole air space in Europe stopped because of it. The chaos affected not only holidays but important meetings, sports events and much more

2010 has also been the year of the terrible earthquake in Haiti and the 33 miners in Chile, it has shown that society in the XXI century is also willing to help, cooperative, caring and supportive.

Good things and bad things have happened during this year that we will remember in the future…we hope that 2011 is full of trips, holidays and nice stays in hotels!

Berlin, the past and present all in the same city

One of the most impressive aspects of Berlin is the grandeur of its buildings, streets and squares: the Cathedral, the Gendarmenmarkt, the Brandenburg Gate or the square where the Reichstag is located are good examples of such grandeur.

Another detail that makes this city special is the mark of history that can be seen in its streets, its neighbourhoods, museums and even in its people.

If you want another reason to visit Berlin, we can’t forget about an air of festivity found in every corner. Berlin is a dynamic city constantly under change and, therefore, offers various alternatives to its visitors.

This is an ideal place to get away for a few days or to take full advantage of a long weekend, seeing the city from morning until late at night and enjoy the atmosphere in the streets and its friendly people.

Winter Wonderland

For UK travellers this winter, summer sun is perhaps out of the question as the snow grinds air travel to a halt. Looking for Romantic breaks in this country can be tricky on a budget during the Christmas period but there are a few hidden gems out there to be found. The New Forest offers stunning scenery in the snow, with weather hardy ponies and old English pubs, there couldn’t be a more beautiful place to spend a few days with a loved one. Staying in bed and breakfasts is the way to go, with small cottages in the garden of beautiful houses there is still the opportunity for privacy for courting couples. Long Romantic walks are always on offer, usually ending at a pub, where you’ll find friendly faces, roaring fires, good food and a hot mulled wine.

World’s Cheapest Hotel

Some days ago we talked about the smallest hotel in the world. Today, we will also write about records, but in this case, it’s not about size, it is about price!

This original hotel is located in Ottensheim, Austria, 120 miles away from Viena. The dasparkhotel is situated in a park and is design is very peculiar, rooms are concrete cylinders with a double bed and a small window (do not go if you are claustrophobic!). Not the most confortable hotel, but when a new visitor arrives, he is given a map of where the showers, toilets, restaurants and supermarkets are and people really enjoy it.

The best part of it? You pay whatever you think the hotel is worth!

Amsterdam, Venice of the north

Amsterdam can be considered as one of the “small – big cities” to be visited at least once in your lifetime. You’ll be surprised by the thousands of bicycles that circulate the streets every day and the way that cars and trams move around harmoniously with them.

You’ll also be surprised by the large number of canals that run through the city giving it a special feeling, by the typical canal houses or by small houseboats. Furthermore, Amsterdam offers a wide range of cultural activities including many museums, theatres as well as emblematic squares and buildings.

This is an ideal place to get away for a few days or to take full advantage of a long weekend, seeing the city from morning until late at night and enjoy the atmosphere in the streets and its friendly people.

World’s smallest hotel

There are two hotels that claim to be the smallest in the world, so we will describe both, you decide which one you like the most!

The first one is in El Hierro, in the Canary Islands, and it has a total of 4 double beds. Getting to the hotel is not an easy job, as it is only reachable by car, through rough roads surrounded by a wonderful volcanic environment.

Once in the building, visitors will enjoy a fantastic view over the sea in one of the four unique bedrooms. The hotel is decorated with sea related objects, the bathrooms have boat’s wood floor and there are other recycled items such as port holes, nets and a scuba gear. An incredible place to enjoy a calm and relaxing weekend.

The second hotel can be found in Amberg, Germany. It only has one double room, normally reserved by just married couples. The building can be easily spotted, as it is the most narrow one in the street (only 2 metres and a half), it was built in 1728 and the decoration style is of the same period.
