For those who think the Spanish Balearics Islands are all about Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, then think again. This Youtube clip may well be an advert for the Balearic’s favourite beer Estrella Damm, but it’s also does a great job of promoting the lesser known island here, Formentera.
Measuring just 19km long by 6km wide, this blip on the Balearic landscape is famed for its eye blinding white sands and turquoise blue seas, giving Caribbean beaches a run for their money.
Formentera feels like Ibiza before it became popular and it still carries a lingering hippy charm mixed in with an air of exclusivity.
It’s most popular with the Spanish and Italians, and the celebrity set love the place. In fact Kate Moss, Elle MacPhearson, and Dolce and Gabanna all come to Formentera in search of seclusion as do the glitterati aboard their multi-million euro super yachts.
But you don’t need the salary of a celebrity to holiday here as although hotels in Formentera are scarce, they’re not particularly expensive. Restaurants are as reasonably priced as anywhere in the Balearics too.
And the island is unlikely to get awash with mass tourism either. Thanks to its World Heritage Status, it seems that paradise is here to stay.
Getting to Formentera: There’s no airport on Formentera. Fly to Ibiza, get a cab to the port and hop on a ferry for a 25 minute ferry journey. Then hire a scooter or a car when you get there.

Formentera is the smallest of our Balearic Islands and it is probably the less developed one, the most virgin one. Ideal for a relaxing break. All the Islands, Mallorca, Menorca,Ibiza and Formentera are special, and I recommend you to visit all of them! The Baleares offer you an amazing and Magical experience!
Very nice blog, thank you for sharing!
