Travel Music

Can you imagine having a long way trip to do without good music? Can’t you? Neither can we. Long ago, cars did not have radios and music could only be listened to at home. However, life has changed and music is one more element that we must not forget when we are travelling (by car, train or plane, it doesn’t matter anymore).

Cassettes are still in our memories. They used to be stored in front of the copilot, who was also the one in charge of changing them when they were over and turning them around to Face B. Remember? Good old times! But music is still there, now we have ipods and mp3 that fill our journey with hours and hours of fantastic music. What music do you listen to? Any recommendations to our fellow blogers?

Movember

The word Movember can be split into: Mo, which is the slang for moustache and November, the month when the event comes.

Nowadays this is an international event, but was borned in Melbourn, Austalia, and it is celebrated every November since 2003. It consists on letting your moustache grow with the commitment of raising the public awareness on the issue of men’s health, particularly prostate cancer.

Why?

This is a funny way of raising funds to fight against this type of cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. In the UK, 36,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 18-35 years.

If you want to participate, let your moustache grow during the whole month of November and introduce moustache in fashion for a good cause

Map of online communities

What would facebook be like if it was a country? This map shows us what different online communities would look like if they were to be drawn in a map. From facebook to skype, messenger, blogs and emails. Their size depends on their daily social activity (base on data of summer 2010). A different way of presenting the idea of social media and its reach.

Ps. We recommend that you click on the image to see it in larger size, as the map is so big we could not fit it here in propper size.

Rain and recesion increase Museums visits

The number of visitors in Galleries and Museums in London this summer has increased by 11% compared to last year’s figures. The main reasons of this rise is the bad weather and the fact that with the crisis tourists tend to visit places free of charge, such as most museums and galleries in London.

This proves that investing in culture boosts the economy by encouraging tourism, as eight out of the top 10 tourist attractions in London are museums and galleries.

Our reccomendations from Hotelopia if you are planning to visit London are the Natural History Museum, specially the human body section, a very interactive exhibition for both adults and children and the British Musem, where you can find pieces of egipcian and roman art as well as a greek temple that was moved piece by piece from Greece into the Museums.

Check out the best offers for London hotels in hotelopia.com!

Countries like Germany, France and the UK are, during these days, on alert for the possibility of new terrorist attacks. Therefore, the USA has warned their citizens travelling abroad to be specially careful when travelling to these and other countries in Europe. This can affect tourism in Europe in the next few months as Americans may decide to change plans or cancel their trips to the ancient continent.

TENERIFE, A DREAMT PARADISE

One of the major attractions of Tenerife is that you will find good weather almost all year round, so any season is a good time to visit.

One of the most interesting aspects is its microclimate, where you can move from one temperature to another and from one landscape to another in just a few kilometres distance, so it is advisable to take a trip and not missing this natural spectacle.

Without a doubt, you can’t miss out on seeing the Teide National Park ‘Garachico’, listed as a Cultural Heritage site, the Cliffs of the Giants (Acantilados de los Gigantes), or ‘Pueblochico’ theme park, among others, and of course, enjoy this wonderful opportunity to taste a typical meal in a traditional winery, walk through one of the many markets, and take the opportunity to get a souvenir of the island.
